SO MAX

I've mentioned this in narrative a few times but Max reminds Royce a lot of the girls in Medford House. Medford House is - uh, well, it's a brothel, but that's not the reason why!! The girls there are very, very sweet, and they helped Gwen take care of both him and Hadrian. There's a part in the books where Royce and Hadrian pretty much just collapse in a street and are barely hanging onto life and Gwen comes to save them, hides them in Medford House and basically nurses them back to health. Gwen loves all of her girls and whatever Gwen loves Royce feels he has to protect, so it's kind of an extension like that. Max reminds him of the brave and sweet girls in the House and he's glad, in a way, that she hasn't ever had to be abused like a lot of the girls in the brothel were.

He really does think she's smart! Royce doesn't have high hopes for a lot of people but I think he holds her in a pretty respectable light. Royce thinks she's going to end up doing good things for her own world because he's seen people like her. She kind of reminds him a little of a younger Arista too but you have to read the books to figure out why.

In any case Royce is going to miss her - Max was a bright little light during the week for him and while it was just a week and he's slow to trust anybody fully after just that amount of time, he found her competent enough to keep his secret. He really, really was hoping that she wasn't mafia the whole time.

There's a lot of things that he would say to her if he was less of a butt about this sort of thing but basically he wants her to do well. She has potential to kick a lot of ass if she needs to and Royce thinks if she doesn't let things stand in her way she'll be fine - though he would tell her (and probably has) to not trust people as much. He'd probably try to make her a little more cautious around people if he was around her for long periods of time but that's because he's a difficult son of a bitch with trust issues out the ass.

ANYWAY THEY'RE SWEET AND ROYCE IS GONNA MISS HER he hopes he'll see her again ;A;

I CAN'T TAKE THIS FEEEEELING ANYMOOOOORE

no but seriously, though - Royce respects Matt, is the best way to put this, I think. Royce thought Matt was an idiot for wanting to do things the hard way (aka not killing people) but that doesn't bother him so much. A lot of people think it's not okay to murder other people so Royce takes their opinions with a grain of salt. Either way, Royce always thought Matt had a good head on his shoulders - he was pretty convinced that Matt was innocent the whole time and that the dude was gonna get taken for a ride a bunch.

Which... he kind of did. Royce also doesn't feel bad about pretending to be a Fox, either, or about his choices in the game. Royce was all about trying to get out alive himself, and he's not above sacrificing other people for that opporunity. It's just that he kind of started to care about other people in the game more than he was expecting, and that was about the point that his motivations switched. He was trapped in a lie with Matt, but he didn't really care - he used the stuff he knew to try and make the trials a little less skewed. And he knew Matt would back him up if he told Matt first, so he did, and then went ahead and made a big old target of himself.

BUT THAT'S ALL KIND OF TANGENT-Y for royce, matt reminds him of a weird combination of hadrian and royce?? Like there's a lot of anger that Royce sees lurking under the surface that reflects the way that Royce feels about things, but Matt does things in a much more Hadrian-esque way than Royce ever would. So Royce wasn't sure what to do with that - he wasn't sure if he wanted to try and take advantage of it or ally himself up with it.

Royce isn't used to people caring about his safety, either. Or respecting him in return - he considers Matt calling him Duster a sign of respect and he really appreciated it. So... Matt is weird in that respect but Royce likes him. Thinks he might've liked to work with the guy a little bit more, too - just never really could get to that point because Royce is such a solitary creature that it's hard for him to make that connection.

Honestly I think the biggest human gesture Royce made all game was offering to hold onto the names for Matt's friends for him. He didn't do it for anybody else, weh.

ah yes stocking

Royce, first and foremost, had no reason for voting for Stocking other than the fact that she spoke up the most during the trial - which means basically he doesn't hate her or anything like that. There's not a lot of people Royce even dislikes, it's more like - a lot of them don't matter. And in the long run of things Stocking doesn't matter to him, WHICH SOUNDS TERRIBLE but Royce is kind of a terrible person.

He thought she was useful - she came up with some pretty insightful stuff during trials and he missed that later on. She also got points for not being super mad when he voted for her and kind of taking it in stride.

TO BE HONEST I think Royce probably would've enjoyed being around her because she's got a mouth on her and he loves people who snark and sass because... he does it... but then she died and he lost interest because he's first and foremost always in it for himself lmao

oh my god WEH GINE his favorite saiyan

ok so disclaimer, royce is terrible at friendships. it is AMAZING that hadrian has stuck around royce for 12 years, idk what that boy is thinking. but I think it might be a little like how Gi-ne is thinking because she pretty much refused to leave Royce alone the whole trial and that's basically how you end up being friends with Royce is by... following him around.

ugh the two of them are really cute okay, Royce needs more people like Gi-ne in his life. She doesn't ever judge him for what he says and it makes him more inclined to like her and listen to her when she says things.

And REALLY he was super pissed when he found out that she was a General, but only for like... ten minutes, and not because she was killing people but because he was thoroughly furious at himself for trusting someone. Royce has a strict policy of not letting people close because they'll stab him in the back (and it happens EVERY TIME) and after Shijima and Jason, he was kind of already vulnerable. So yeah he was pissed but... then he thought about it and was sort of just like no, she played the game, like I've been telling everybody to - and she fooled him, which he respects.

so... yeah, he was mad, but he got over it. he really likes Gi-ne because she reminds him of Hadrian, and because she's sweet to him without being a weenie about it. they'd be great sidekicks to each other tbh

quietly ships it

WHY DIDN'T YOU GIVE ME A GUN I COULD HAVE KILLED THEM!!
bywolves: (Default)

[personal profile] bywolves 2015-09-04 11:26 pm (UTC)(link)
BECAUSE HE DIDN'T TRUST YOU AUGER!!!

matt actually told royce to watch out for auger which... well, it was boyfriendchan's word against yours, auger, there was no winning. and royce was INTENSELY suspicious of auger from the start, so when auger came up to him like yo, gunsmith, royce nearly died right then and there.

royce had a hard time in this game with most people because he didn't want to say anything for fear of being murdered and then he stuck his neck out anyway...

he probably should've given auger a gun when the judge suggested but also royce is a selfish bastard so his reasoning was like 'nah fuck you i'm gonna kill the swords'

LMFAO DID THE JUDGE REALLY TELL HIM TO GIVE AUGER A GUN i missed that

anyway it's in his best interests not to trust oj so it works out... good move royce

hits but can anyone tell if hinata hits anyone bc lbr he's a weenie
bywolves: (Default)

[personal profile] bywolves 2015-09-04 11:44 pm (UTC)(link)
AW HINATA OKAY LOOK Royce gave Hinata a hard time out of like... idk, potential? Because Hinata is a smart kid even if he is a big weenie. Royce thinks that if Hinata sucked less at killing people, he could be like Royce - which nobody wants, because why would you want two Royces running around seriously

He appreciated that Hinata never trusted him. Everybody was quick to defend Royce a few times but the fact that Hinata was never... hostile, just suspicious, really resonated well with Royce. Like a "yes good that's the kind of thing I like to see" type deal. Kind of like Max, Royce sees Hinata as a person who can turn out to not completely suck and he just wants to make sure that Hinata doesn't screw himself over by being a goody-two shoes.

but then again Royce has screwed himself over several times by not trusting anybody so HEY, maybe Hinata's way is the way to go

Tell me why Royce thought it was a good idea to keep provoking the giant teenager. 8|

And I guess feelings on the giant baby here too if you'd like.

[personal profile] bywolves 2015-09-04 11:48 pm (UTC)(link)
BECAUSE. Because Hector is the kind of dude that Royce dislikes, the justice types. Royce didn't see a whole bunch out of him besides the times he provoked him but every time Royce saw Hector it just made him want to provoke Hector into hurting him to prove a point. Like "yeah, okay, you think you're so good and full of justice but you punch people you don't agree with".

Royce also figured a lot of the time that if he got Hector to beat him up, Royce would have more people inclined to be nice to Royce and rude to Hector for beating up ~someone innocent~.

AND BOLS man Royce... Royce thinks Bols is a weenie... he doesn't necessarily dislike the guy he's just like 'erugh, grow a spine and stop feeling bad about having killed people what's the big deal' because Royce doesn't think twice about... murdering people...

YES IT'S TOTALLY FINE i'm still super amused that they were buddy cops, why could this not have been canon

I'm gonna tell you a secret right now - Royce is an asshole and all of the swords blurred together for him. He would look at them like squints....... all of you are the same person WHICH IS TERRIBLE, LMAO but true.

So like Tsurumaru didn't really stand out to him until he found out that Tsurumaru killed Kashuu, and then he was Tsurumaru's biggest fan forever so at least Tsuru got that... incredible honor...

I LOVED ALL OF THE SWORDS THOUGH royce is just a big old butt

Royce was absolutely buttblasted that Yamato lied about having a gun, like - he was so convinced he was going to be dead for feeding people the wrong information even though he KNEW Yamato had one

But then they talked in the graveyard and like... mostly because Jason is a sweetheart, Royce doesn't really mind that it happened. Like they were playing a game so Royce doesn't care, he gets to go home and that's all that matters.

He's still kind of like /squints at Yamato though, that boy ain't right

replies 15 minutes late w/ starbucks

SO SHIJIMA shijima is royce's favorite. He appreciated having someone around at the start who didn't think he was crazy or murderous for thinking that not voting was a stupid idea. They both share the whole 'not really caring who dies' mentality which is also something royce doesn't come across often, so pairing that with that fact that shijima had a dry sense of humor meant Royce was pretty much endeared to her from the start.

He wasn't like devastated when she died but he was Upset - not because she was a Zaroff but because he spent a lot of time trying to defend her and she ended up getting killed off anyway. Royce likes to tell himself that he's not a very good person and that he doesn't care about anybody or anything, but he does. He cared enough at least, after the two days of thinking Shijima could be a great ally, that he'd been fooled into protecting her.

Royce doesn't like to be manipulated and he absolutely thought he was being manipulated by Shijima after it was revealed she was Zaroff - but then he thought about it and was like eh, she played the game to the best of her ability. So he's not mad about it anymore, he just shrugged it off.

BASICALLY Royce enjoys being around Shijima and wishes she would've been around longer so they could've been buddies >[ he'll miss you when you're gone, kitty

GROSS

no alright, so from the first time that they met, Royce was wary of Jason - not because he thought Jason was ever going to do anything to him, but because Royce has a pretty good idea of which people are dangerous and which aren't. He worked with assassins for years ok he can tell when someone's killed a person or has the potential to. And Jason had similar ideas to him too, that all the friendly people shouldn't be trusted etc etc so Royce was down with having Jason as an ally.

Y'know, and then Jason tasered him and Royce was like MOTHERFUCKER THAT WAS A BAD IDEA

But somehow they truce'd about that and Royce wanted to be allies again just because he always thought Jason knew more than he was letting on. Royce was frustrated like ALL game because it always seemed like everybody else knew more than he did, and he really just wanted Jason to tell him shit. Which is why he mentioned Yamato to Jason as a throw-away piece of information so that he could get something else out of Jason. Not that that did any good because Jason like... died, immediately.

And that affected him more than he thought it would too, maybe because Jason defended him when everybody was pissed that Yamato died as an innocent, and because Jason helped patch him up when he got cut. Royce was absolutely furious that Jason died and I think that's a big part of why he wasn't as hesitant to vote for Gi-ne. Gi-ne was always sweet to him, but Jason was both an uneasy friend AND a source of information and Royce was about ready to punch everything when he heard.

so jason you were his bro and everybody shipped you and royce the end
