SLAMS HANDS ON MY FACE AND LIES DOWN UNDER THE TABLE

ugh kasen. kasin kamisalad. outside of souza and tsuru, kasen was definitely the sword that kashuus opinion changed the most on. i mean literally, his draft death letter just mentioned kasen briefly like "YOU CAN TAKE MY SHARE OF PILLOWS NOW" LMFAO. kasen was basically in that blanket sword category of "you're a comrade and we're on friendly terms, i'd even call you a friend but we're not super close!" kasen kind of had an older brother role in general bc of his starter sword status, but since kashuu 1) arrived pretty soon after and 2) isn't a tantou, he never really felt like it applied to him... so he was kind of just like ah yes kasen, the poetry nerd, the guy who gets really mad about horses and inelegance on the battlefield. a distant sort of friendship!

BUT STILL CAMARADERIE. as ive said like 100 times by now, kashuu is extremely loyal and dedicated to his comrades. he'd lay his life down to save any one of them, kasen included! and he was honestly pretty appreciative that kasen was there with them bc despite the fact that he's pretty aloof and self-assured outwardly, he's not really leader material so he had probably looked toward kasen for guidance at the citadel and kind of continued to do so in the game.

things were okay for a while and kasen, like some of the other swords, more or less dropped from his radar for a bit. he was too busy focusing on Other Issues, and then his attention was entirely on the other gumi swords d4, and it wasn't really until after yamato's trial that he started murderbonding with kasen. THE PINKY PROMISE... kashuu started the pinky promise with clarine but he carried it on after yamato's death bc yamato had asked him for one too, and it kind of felt like a way to keep yams alive so that promise was really important to him. so was the unspoken promise of kasen's support! IT MEANT A LOT. of course, during the n4 conversation, he didn't actually expect that turbomurder would really happen... like, he was absolutely considering it, but he hadn't been pushed far enough for it to be a definite yet.

AND THEN SOUZA DIED AND allmyfriendsaredead.png, kasen and kashuu basically both lost it at the same time and threw caution to the wind. kashuu took up his position as follower once again and let kasen lead the way, trusting that they were on the same page and that if what they were doing wasn't the only option, kasen wouldn't be leading them to it. he basically just mentally made kasen the captain and pledged to follow him and lend any aid that he possibly could so that they could reach their ultimate goal. he felt a really strong connection to kasen then not only bc they were going into this together, not just bc they couldn't share it with anyone else, but bc it had this sort of finality to it even at the start. like kasen obviously had to deal with the pressure of potential corruption more than kashuu did, but he absolutely walked into that promise knowing that it was likely going to be the last one he made even if he survived. but he was still willing to do it, and kasen was willing to do it, so even tho they never actually talked about any of that out loud, kashuu just sort of formed this massive new respect for kasen. respect and trust, like MORE TRUST, bc they were essentially holding hands and jumping over a waterfall screaming...

AND THEN KASHUU GOT KASHOT and he was so angry at tsuru at the time but even that wasn't enough for him to be distracted entirely. tsuru died and he tried to convey to kasen how absolutely sorry he was for breaking their promise and for making kasen carry all of the weight on his own. he felt like a huge failure and he was seriously genuinely devastated to leave just after they'd taken the first step down this horrible road together, but it's not like there was anything he could do about it. everything caught up with him at once so he probably ended up making things harder bc he was just tired! and crying!! and having a bad time and he didn't want to die but he also just wanted everything to be over already and he felt shitty and selfish for it and regretted not being able to hold himself together better for kasen, bc he didn't want to contribute to potential corruption, but he couldn't help it. he was really grateful that kasen mercykilled him too, bc bleeding out wouldn't have been particularly brutal, but it would have been agonizing to him for Reasons and kasen knew that and helped him out even if that was putting a lot on his shoulders.

AND THEN GRAVEYARD AND THE WHIRLWIND OF "KASEN WE FUCKED UP" but he couldn't actually tell kasen and that was his biggest worry, like oh shit, KASEN!! also everyone else, all of the other swords, BUT KASEN!! he stanned for kasen even after he killed 8 people okay that's how much he loves kasen now. he was too deda to hear kasen refer to him so closely when he was fixing up their bodies, but his sentiments were basically the same! he was guilty about ditching him and upset about how everything turned out so awfully and worried about corruption, and about kasen's mental state, since clearly he had a Moment and all he could do was watch and it was upsetting.

he absolutely expects kasen to get rid of his memories, that said, and he'd encourage it if kasen were waffling. he's waffling himself, bc he's not at as large a risk of corruption, but he knows that kasen didn't really take anything good out of this experience and thinks it would be better if he took the mercy of leaving it behind for his own sake. that said, if he keeps his own memories, he's absolutely going to make an effort to get closer to kasen back home! bc the sort of partnership they formed out of desperation is something that can't really be gotten rid of. he felt a lot of understanding and closeness, and he'll always be grateful for the support and for kasen's guidance EVEN IF IT WAS INSANE... that's ok he was insane too, it worked out, IT WAS FINE.

he's also grateful that kasen didn't mention his involvement either like wtf bros to the end, kasen trying to preserve his memory by taking the fall alone. UGH!!! his heart. comes into the game like "YEAH KASEN'S OKAY", leaves the game like "i'll fall on my sword for my brother tbh".
