just kidding, Auger thinks Souza is totally pathetic and worthless, and is most likely better off dead! He picked him out of the swords because he recognizes a broken man when he sees one. (Because he's broken a lot of people...) His hope was that Souza would care so little about his own well-being that he wouldn't care acting in Auger's stead, but feel guilty enough about his friends' lives being in danger to act if Auger threatened them. It worked pretty well, save for the telling Urashima part, which ended up working in Auger's favor anyway...!

Overall, though, he really doesn't like Souza and doesn't even really see him as a person. It's fitting in his mind that he's a sword, because that's all he's good for - being used as a tool to cut down the opposition until he breaks. The fact that he wasn't that afraid of Auger annoyed him, too. If he'd had more time and freedom, he would have tortured him for fun to try and breed fear into him... i'm sorry...
