at first, tsurumaru was kind of iffy about her. she seemed like an adamantly righteous, pompous kind of princess girl. (but that was just her tsun heart……... there’s a moe center!!!!) he was worried that clarine wouldn’t be down with murder, especially since clarine seemed reluctant to kill or do any of this in the first place. it did exasperate tsurumaru a little, because as a sword, he’s never had the chance to offer his thoughts on what he thinks about an order — he just has to carry it out, so he didn’t see why she was complaining so much!!! pinches her tsun cheeks
things started to change after orion died, when tsurumaru asked her if they could pray for the souls that departed. they started to reach some kind of mutual understanding here, and this was around when tsurumaru's heart started opening up to the murderfam, whether he wanted it to or not. clarine was actually the one that reminded tsurumaru of his favorite child master the most. through the week, he really enjoyed watching her… grow(?) from not wanting to do any of this, to biting the bullet and embracing the role in the name of saving people. IT REALLY FELT LONGER THAN JUST A WEEK TBH!!! she grew up a lot in this week and he felt the way that a sword feels when their master overcomes a great obstacle. they feel really proud, honestly!!
what tsurumaru holds dearest to him, however, are all of those times when clarine told him that he wouldn’t be alone anymore. the first few times she said it, he didn’t believe it — he’s been left behind by other people’s deaths so many times, even before this island and even before his own canon, that he didn’t have the courage to believe in her words. but then good end rolled around, and everyone did come back!! so he owed clarine a big apology and a bucket of tears because he’s sappy and relieved that he can see her again. and in a way, she restored a lot of his faith in humans.
in the graveyard, he found himself worrying about her and hinata more than he thought he would. when hijikata woke up in the graveyard, one of tsurumaru’s first thoughts was to worry about how hinata and clarine would fare out there on their own. he wasn’t a murderparent, but he was just as proud of her throughout this whole ordeal.
and post-game… he really hopes that she’ll come visit urashima at the citadel. he’s absolutely certain that the saniwa would approve of her, and he’d like to see her again, too.
