things got weird after Rei died and she kind of distanced herself from her because Rei is Rei, but ultimately she's glad she met Rei and she does see some good in her. she'd genuinely want to keep in contact with her after returning home.

She'll feel pretty awkward about people being glad to have met her, though. What are friends...

max initially thought of Clarine as.. abrasive, but maybe compensating for something. she's used to dealing with girls who were insecure and behaved in a way because of that, so max thought that was why she was the way she was. as time went on, max started to feel kind of protective of clarine! clarine was taking things pretty hard and as an older teen, she felt responsible for clarine. there were a lot of times max tried her best to encourage her even though she knew the situation was bad and she did her best not to let clarine's sometimes condescending nature get to her.
she ultimately came out liking and respecting clarine a whole lot. she's a really brave girl and someone with a lot of heart, and she weirdly feels like she can relate to her?? even though they come from completely different backgrounds?? maybe it's the common teen girl experience, or the fact that they both have strong senses of duty.
but leave her hair alone clarine pls..

Stocking was hard to talk to at first because Max is used to dealing with people with similar attitudes back home, but those people don't like her and antagonize her a lot! so she was originally pretty defensive around stocking and didn't like her much, but she grew to like her a lot and respect her in the trials when she saw how hard stocking tried. she was also really beat up when stocking died, like, it was the first death that really affected her. stocking is a really cool girl though and she's glad angels aren't lame and like to have fun!! basically she thinks of stocking as a cool but caring older sis type
now she needs to meet panty

max really trusts matt! like a lot, and she doesn't even know he's a superhero. something about matt was very comforting for max, maybe the fact that he didn't try to rationalize the situation and just silently was there for her. like rei max was kinda awkward about his disability for a while, but like Rei, she grew to realize they were a lot stronger than she was in a lot of ways. (not that rei actually was but yknow) she really thought matt was gonna solve everything and she kinda grew to go by what he said in the trials. generally he was pretty on the mark. but you know how murder goes.
also i misread matt as max so much during the course of the game and it was confusing

she really likes hinata though and considers him a friend. he was always really nice to her and his concern for her is similar to another friend of her's back home, so it was appreciated and it made her feel supported while she was on the island. she was initially upset that hinata turned out to be a general, but like gi-ne and clarine, she kinda got over it fast. especially since there was a reason for it! but yeah it made her feel Weird retroactively about finding that body with him.. he could have pushed her off.. but he didn't so they're cool. she really hopes they can contact each other somehow back in The Real World and help him out with his dilemma after all her shit is over with..

royce has been her most interesting relationship here! and her opinion of him has been a rollercoaster. when she first met him, he was intimidating (despite the height) but somehow kind. at the very least, he said she wasn't stupid, which was nice. his behavior in the first trial, though, was weird because she'd never met anyone that thought quite like royce did. him being the only one that voted was odd!! but it was more like a 'i don't understand this guy' odd than a 'wow he's an evil murderer let's lynch him' odd.
when she spoke to him on the second day, he seemed almost like a harmless grumpy dude and she became pretty endeared to him.
then he like, killed sephiroth. it was one of the first moments in shiptrap where she was like 'wow, there really is a different breed of people here' because even if he had to do it, he certainly didn't have any qualms with it. she was really concerned for him after that, though, and day three was when max was really endeared to him! when he showed concern(?!) for max after stocking was found, and his understanding of her reactions to death, it made her feel really validated and comfortable around him. BUT she also wanted to be more like him during the trials; decisive and not fazed, because ultimately she felt that was how they would be able to win.
eventually, matt and royce were the people that max turned to when it came to voting. she felt like they had the best judgment with it, and it was the main reason she decided to vote yamato off!
after she got the gun she was kinda mad, and kinda mad that royce gave it to her, but her private convo with him was when she decided that she would be meaner, and she wouldn't cry anymore, and she'd do anything to get off shiptrap and get back home to do what she had to.
of course then they both died!! but royce helped talk her down from making the deal with the judge, even though she was totally willing to do it if it 1. got royce out of being the zaroff 2. allowed her to save her town/chloe and 3. wouldn't go to hell.
but yeah, royce ended up being her unlikely bff on shiptrap and she trusts him a lot and has a really high opinion of him! and she's gonna miss him a lot after leaving :(

shijima was the first person that definitely was not a normal human max talked to. and how nonchalantly she treated it was offputting to max, like, she almost felt weird for being weirded out by them!!
she grew to like shijima really fast, and like.. everything she said to her was weirdly encouraging? maybe shijima and royce's brand of tough love really is effective on her, but she grew to feel like shijima really cared about her mental state. shijima telling her she was useful also encouraged her to keep taking pictures and doing her best during the trials.
she was really upset when shijima died, but she also like, immediately felt bad for her and the situation she was in with her brother! she wanted to remember shijima in this way, a tragic figure, so she took the picture and held onto it.
when she met her in the graveyard shijima once again was supportive of her in her strange way and also talked her out of the judge deal so she really is appreciative of that. she also was upset even MORE about shijima's fucked up situation and she was glad that she could give her the picture to help her remember kouichi. like a lot. she felt like that was her Good Deed for shiptrap.
also it's fun for to make fun of her sometimes
